15 "OMG!" True Facts

1/ The record number of body piercings is held by Elaine Davidson, a Scottish woman with 720 piercings.

2/ The average man cries six times per year, while the average woman does so 30-64 times. That’s a lot of tissue!

3/ Killer whales attack sharks by torpedoing their stomach, the softest part of their body. Doing this causes the shark to explode.

4/ Albert Einstein’s parents thought he was retarded. He said his first words ("hot soup!") at four and could not speak fluently by the age of nine.

5/ The wandering spider, found in Brazil, has arguably the strangest venom in the world. A single bite from this little guy can cause an erection that lasts for hours.

6/ Justin Bieber and Ke$ha have the same birthday.

7/ The world’s fattest woman was accused of murdering her nephew. She confessed to crushing him while babysitting him against her family’s wishes.

8/ Heroin was once available over the counter and was often used as a cough syrup.

9/ I'm not suggesting it was the key to her longevity, but it's amazing to note that Jeanne Louise Calment smoked for 96 of her 122 years. She enjoyed an active life, taking up fencing at 85 and cycling regularly until her 100th birthday. Perhaps she might have lived even longer without the ciggies!

10/American Paralympian Matt Stutzman holds the world record for the longest accurate archery shot. He was born without arms, but was determined to rise above his disability. He just trained himself to use his feet instead!

11/  In a freak coincidence, Erskine Lawrence Ebbin was killed by a taxi in Bermuda in July 1975. The July before, the same taxi driver had killed Erskin's brother Neville. But the coincidences don't stop there. The brothers were riding the same moped, and were killed by the exact same taxi. The taxi driver was also transporting the same passenger on both occasions. Spooky!

12/ Mike Hayes of Illinois was so desperate to learn that he wrote to his local paper for help. He asked readers to donate their pennies to help send him to college. The result was overwhelming, with locals giving a total of $28,000. That was enough for Hayes to study Food Science at the University of Illinois.

13/Da Vinci proved the old saying that a masterpiece takes time. He painstakingly painted her perfect pout, spending some ten years on the project. The result is pretty incredible, but we're not sure if it's a decade's worth of incredible!

14/ We might dream of people we don't recognize, but these folks are never truly strangers. The human brain can't invent images of new people, so it draws from memory. You might have only met these dream people once or twice, but they're hidden somewhere in your mind.

15/ The riches in the fantasy film came at a cost to New Zealand. The film crew actually used all the gold paint in the country to cover the coins, jewelry, and weapons! Thankfully Germany was only too happy to send some of its gold paint to Hobbiton.
